The Science: Why Summer is the Enemy of Lash Adhesive

Let's get technical for a minute. Lash adhesives are made of cyanoacrylate. This ingredient cures (hardens) through a process called polymerization, which is triggered by moisture in the air.

Here is the paradox: Your adhesive needs moisture to cure. But too much moisture? That is where everything falls apart—literally.

The Ideal Humidity: 40%–60%. In this range, your adhesive cures at the perfect speed, creating a strong, durable bond.

The Summer Problem: When humidity spikes above 65%–70%, the adhesive cures too fast. This is called shock curing. The outer layer hardens instantly, trapping moisture and uncured adhesive inside. The result? A weak, brittle, and cloudy bond that snaps off within days.

Step 1: Control Your Environment

Your room environment is non-negotiable. Here are the gold standards:

• Temperature: 20°C–24°C (68°F–75°F)

• Humidity: 40%–60% (ideally around 50%)

The Expert Fix: Invest in a hygrometer (humidity monitor) and place it right next to your workspace. Do not guess. And please, do not rely on your AC alone—AC removes moisture, but it can make the room too dry (below 30%). If that happens, use a humidifier. Balance is everything.

Step 2: Switch Your Adhesive

This is the most important step. One adhesive does NOT work for all seasons.

• Winter: You need a fast-drying adhesive (0.5–1 second) because the air is dry.

• Summer: You need a slower-drying adhesive (2–3 seconds) to give yourself working time.

The Expert Fix: Have at least two adhesives in your kit—one for dry months and one for humid months. Read the label: adhesives with higher ethyl cyanoacrylate content cure slower, making them better for summer. Speak to your supplier and ask for their "high humidity" formula.
